Q: Can I choose the nose that I like?
A: The nose shape that can be achieved for you depends on what we have to start with. Therefore it is not possible to achieve an entirely different nose, which you may see in a magazine on somebody else. The trick is to modify your existing nose to suit your face. After all what is beauty? It is balance and harmony. The nose we plan to achieve should complement and fit in with the rest of your facial features
Q: What is computer imaging and how does it help me?
A: Computer imaging allows a picture of your nose to be modified and you can see your nose on your face in the modified picture. There are lots of things we can do on a computer that we can't achieve in real life. The nose we will try to make will depend on what we have to start with. However, computer imaging is a very important tool for you to communicate what is acceptable to you. It will give Dr Chan an idea of what you are expecting from surgery. He will tell you what may be achievable and what is not achievable. This communication tool will guide the planning of the surgery and Dr Chan will attempt to get as close to the plan as possible. Because we are working with human tissues and there are other factors affecting healing etc, we can't guarantee that we will totally achieve the planned nose but we certainly will work towards it as much as possible.
Q: Is it a painful operation?
A: It may be a bit uncomfortable because you cannot breathe through your nose for the first week but you will not be in great pain.
Q: How long do I wear a plaster for?
A: A splint is worn for the first seven days. Dr Chan will cover it with flesh coloured tape to make it less noticeable.
Q: I am 65 years old. Am I too old to have a nose job?
A: You're never too old, so long as you are fit and healthy. Sometimes the nose lengthens with aging and corrective surgery can actually make the patients look younger. |
