Q: When is it best to do the operation? A: When the patient starts to complain about it. It is best to wait until the child complains about it and desires to have the operation. If done too young, even though it may be obvious to the parents, the child does not understand why he has the operation. Therefore why do it before it becomes a problem with the patient?
Q: Can the operations be done on adults? A: You are never too old to have the operation. Ears get bigger as you get older and particularly in males, if they loose weight in their face or start to loose hair the ears can start to look too prominent. Nowadays with short haircuts being in fashion the demand for the operation has increased. Our oldest patient to have this operation was 65 years old.
Q: Will the ears 'pop' out again? A: No.
Q: How long will I need to wear a bandage for? A: One week.
Q: Does Medicare cover the operation? A: Yes there is a Medicare rebate for this operation.
