Perth, Western Australia
Dr Chan has performed ear surgery in Perth for over 20 years now. The problem of prominent ears is usually due to the ear cupping forwards and seldom due to big ears. In either case, folding the ear back along the natural folds will make the ear sit in a more natural position and become less prominent.
The operation of ear surgery is most commonly performed in children particularly when they start school and get teased. This is the best time as the child desperately wants it done and will generally be cooperative because they understand why they are having the operation. We do not encourage the operation when parents think the child needs the ears fixed before the child is old enough to understand or want the operation. Some adult patients request the operation because it has embarrassed them for a long time and they have finally had the opportunity to do so.
Dr Chan operates regularly at the Mount Hospital, South Perth Hospital and St. John of God Hospital (Subiaco) in Perth, Western Australia.
Ear Surgery in Perth, Western Australia
The ear surgery operation involves day surgery or an overnight stay. A head bandage is worn for one week and the suture is removed after two weeks. It is not a very painful operation but some discomfort is experienced for a few days.
Because a head bandage is worn for one week, it is better done in winter. Time off for adults is one week.
A Medicare item number can be used and you will be able to get some of the surgical and ana esthetic fees back. If you have hospital insurance, you will probably have almost all your hospital costs covered.
