Liposuction / Liposculpture

Perth, Western Australia

Liposuction is the removal of fat from the body. It was first used over 18 years ago and the great advantage of this procedure is that it is able to decrease a figure fault by suction through a small incision. Prior to this, the only other way to remove excess fat was by cutting - which often left a long and ugly scar behind along with areas of numbness.

Change of Proportions is Long Lasting

Excess fat cells removed via liposuction are gone forever. Once extracted, the remaining fat cells do not multiply to take the place of the cells that have been removed. In this way the change in proportions is permanent.

Not a Substitute for Weight Loss Although liposuction removes excess fat, and can reshape a body, it is not a substitute for weight loss and it is not suitable for obese patients.

Liposuction and Liposculpture - What is the Difference?

There is a big difference between liposuction and liposculpture. Liposuction refers to the extraction of fat volume from the body, whereas liposculpture is the reshaping of the body to its proper proportions. Liposculpture compared to liposuction is like a sculptor compared to a stone mason. It is an art form.

Liposculpture calls for a critical, artistic eye and a good command of liposuction techniques to achieve the best balance and harmony. After all what is beauty? Beauty is balance and harmony.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction

Refinements for liposuction have occurred over the years and the addition of ultrasound assistance allows the breaking up of the fibrous fat which is often found in parts of the body such as the upper abdomen and hips. Liposuction can therefore be more effective and complete with ultrasound assistance. The use of ultrasound techniques also makes it possible to treat male figure faults, which always contain fibrous fat, such as the love handles and breasts which were quite resistant to liposuction previously.

Are Patients over 40 Suitable for Liposuction?

There is no real age limit so long as the skin has not lost too much elasticity and can take up the slack once the fat is removed. In fact some of the happiest post-operative patients are those whose body shape had changed previously with menopause - where fat tends to accumulate in the tummy and hips. It is possible to sculpt away this excessive accumulation of fat to create a more youthful figure which allows clothes to fit better.
